From New York to Goa Destination Wedding and the gorgeous Purple Mandap!

2 Days, 6 Functions, 5 months of planning. This Wedding is very special for numerous reasons. Let us see how we planned and designed this wedding, which is nothing less than a dream.

The Couple

Saumya, originally from Gorakhpur and Manish, from Mumbai, are College sweethearts and have been together ever since. On the first day of college, Manish fell in love with Saumya instantly when she went up to him and said Hello. We love to hear it from Saumya, as she describes it, Manish says even today “She had me at hello”

They did many of their firsts together, which also includes going to the US together. Now they call New York home. They had the dreamiest engagement in Paris, France In front of the Eiffel tower. When they decided to get hitched, they chose India’s favorite beach destination, Goa as their wedding location. A Wedding of two best friends who decided on forever..

Saumya, a strong opinionated, independent girl who knows exactly what she wants. She has a creative side and loves designing. She enjoys simple things in life and subtle designs. Her love for her family is quite evident and is very humble and a real sweetheart. We spent 5 months planning her wedding with her and at times miss those sweet conversations.  Manish is a sweet and handsome man, heads over heels in love with Saumya. He lets her take the lead and enjoys keeping her happy. They are a perfect fit, enjoy each other’s ambition and are each other’s biggest cheerleaders.

After getting to know Saumya, we understood we wanted to do something different for her wedding. She has a charming, fun, sweet yet fierce personality, modern yet traditional.  We wanted the décor to represent just that. We believe that there should not be just one photo corner but the entire space should be picturesque. Where the guest would love to take pictures of every corner. We are quite happy to say this wedding had many such beautiful corners. The wedding started with an evening Mehendi Party followed by Sangeet celebration.

The next day we had an early morning haldi ceremony followed by a pool party and rain dance. It was a sunset wedding followed by reception.

Mehendi & Sangeet

The Mehendi and Sangeet were held at the same outdoor venue.  Mehendi was a day function and Sangeet a late evening one. It was a challenge for us to achieve this look décor wise, as we had to blend the theme in such a way it had to look good in the day as well as in the night. We can say it with much happiness that it turned out just as planned, colorful and glittery.  We are more than happy to say, everyone simply loved every element that was designed and implemented especially Saumya & Manish.

The entrance pathway was filled with custom made dream catchers with elephant prints on it, glitter danglers on the sides, and real citrus fruits like lemons and oranges to add breath of fresh colors to the entire space.

The main ceiling area was covered with same dream catchers and fairy lights, which were turned on for the Sangeet ceremony. We had four teepees made for guests to get their mehendi applied. Two were pastel pink and other two mint green, they had fairy lights on them too which were turned on for the sangeet ceremony.

The table pieces had different fruit centerpieces instead of one. For chair décor we had real oranges tied up with greens.

We had LED Screen for the Stage backdrop as we were going to show the couple’s journey together put up in an audio video format.  We had the glitter danglers and disco balls hanging around the LED screen and lots of them for the ceiling décor of the stage. The dance floor also was an LED Dance floor making it all look glittery and fun together, just what we wanted for the sangeet night.

The couple backdrop had vibrant colored fresh flowers on all three sides of the frame and the glitter danglers in the center, this combination turned out to be perfect for the dazzling pictures.

Our Couple changed their outfits for sangeet and we had a glittery pyro entry for them. The guests along with the couple glittered and shone too with their spectacular performances.

Haldi Ceremony

The next day there was an early morning haldi ceremony. The set up went on entire night for it. Saumya wanted subtle and traditional theme to it. The space chosen for haldi ceremony had good shade due to trees around it and was really cozy. It is very important for us to check the venues and then start planning the décor themes and other activities as a lot of things are planned as per the spaces chosen. We played with yellow and white marigolds and added elements like kaleeras, hand made parrots, origami’s and banana leaves.  The entire space looked soothing to the eyes and it had a very peaceful and positive energy to it. The couple entry was done with marigold flower shower. Everything looked absolutely amazing.

While this haldi ceremony was going on, one team was taking care of the requirements here and the other team was taking care of the pool party set up  and the Wedding set up simultaneously as we had these events one after the other post the Haldi Ceremony.

Pool Party

Now it was time for Pool Party and Rain Dance. Here, Saumya did not want a lot of cluster of décor. So we just let the place do its charm. There was a photo corner, pool party props Station, Rain Dance set up, Mocktail Station and of course how could we do without a DJ. The guests had a great time getting drenched in the rain dance and taking a dip in the pool.

The Wedding

After this it was the most important event, The Wedding. We always felt, Saumya would be able to carry something different and unique. So we planned to have a purple mandap with a tinge of pink blooms and sunflowers. It was a sunset wedding, and we had the sea as our backdrop. While the sun sets, it turns the sky into a mix of many beautiful colors like orange, yellow, pink and purple. So we thought why not mix all these colors and make it a Sunset Mandap. Yes that’s what we call it “Sunset Mandap” Saumya adored lotuses and we realized that while having décor discussions with her. So we added loads of lotus hangings on the mandap, the entrance arches, centerpieces, pathway and chair décor. We added bells as hangings as she wanted them. We too love adding bells to the wedding mandap, it gives a holy feel to it. The Mandap looked like Magic and when the varmala ceremony was taking place on the mandap, we had the beautiful sunset colors and the beach as backdrop. It looked like a dream that had turned into reality. Saumya’s yellow lehenga looked like a ray of sunshine. The mirror aisle was an icing on the cake.

We played with gold lanterns and other purple and yellow glass props for the entrance décor, centerpieces and pathway décor. The chairs were golden with white pearls on them. One cannot put down the beauty this all created together in words. One can only witness the Magic.

Our groom Manish entered in a vintage car and Saumya under a phoolon and bells ki chaddar. What was amazing to see was usually as per Hindu wedding rituals, the groom enters first, goes on the mandap and waits for the bride, but Saumya & Manish wanted to walk together towards the mandap holding hands as they are best friends getting married. They are equals in the relationship and want to walk hand in hand for a lifetime and face all situations together. We simply were in awe of this. This was the first time we saw a couple walking together to the mandap breaking all the inhibitions and hesitations. Their Varmala (Garlands) were also made keeping their outfits and the theme colors in mind. A mix of peach, pink and purple fresh flowers. We had an instrumental band perform during the wedding ceremony was on, which added to the surreal feel of everything created together.

Post the wedding ceremony we had the wedding reception. Saumya and Manish went to change their outfits and meanwhile we had a Bollywood unplugged band to entertain the guests. We had a sparkling entry planned for them through out the aisle and on the stage too. There was a reception stage set up for meet and greet. Remember we told you about “she had me at Hello”. Well, it plays such an important role in bringing them together, how could we not implement it somewhere. So here’s what we did. We created the reception stage with the neon sign saying, Yes you guessed it right “ She had me at hello” , Now they will have beautiful pictures to frame with their favourite tag line.

Unplugged Bollywood Band

This wedding is surely a trend setting one in so many ways. One we will cherish all our lives. We absolutely loved planning this wedding with Saumya and wish Saumya & Manish a life full of love, laughter and a friendship that only grows stronger with time.
